Welcome

Held every five years, the Symposium aims to encourage the continuous improvement of highway geometric design. This event focuses on the latest breakthrough practices relating to highway engineering in their different life phases, including daily operational effects and safe highway designs. Traditionally, the ISHGD Symposium consists of informative podium sessions on a range of geometric design issues from around the world, combined with country reports featuring recent local developments in road design, policy and practices, technical software demos, design and research products and technical tours of local highway design and construction practices.

The 2020 Symposium is hosted in The Netherlands, in cooperation with the Belgian region Flanders. The ‘Low Countries’ share a common language and a rich tradition in highway design, with leading research and innovation projects, for instance in the field of autonomous driving. Amsterdam is one of the best conference and touristic destinations in Europe, right in the middle of some multi-billion highway projects, well connected to the world.

This Symposium presents an international network of highway design experts, from research and knowledge institutes, universities and higher education, major engineering consultants and highway contractors, national and regional road authorities.

Interactive workshops, encouraging a more active participation by all delegates, are aimed at sharing insights in thematic discussions, leading to valuable conclusions and recommendations for future designs.

The detailed program will be available early next year, make sure you stay informed by filling out your details. This way you will also be notified as soon as the call for papers is out and more information on the program is made available.

Hope to see you in Amsterdam in 2020!
